999 calls restored following technical fault

You may be aware that many police forces across the country have experienced a BT technical fault which meant that 999 calls were not connecting.

The 999 system has now been restored and anyone in an emergency in Hertfordshire is asked to please call 999 as usual.

Problems with the service emerged at about 9am on Sunday morning.

BT runs the 999 number for emergency services and is responsible for answering and directing calls.

A BT spokesperson told the BBC that the situation was "fast-moving as we fix the problem".

However, as the morning progressed emergency call services were being restored.

If your call is not an emergency, please call 101 or contact the police online at herts.police.uk/contact
