Letchworth: Why did the council binman hurl a purple recycling bin into his refuse truck?

While it sounds like the start of a bizarre joke, a North Herts resident did not see the funny side - because it was his own purple bin that was destroyed.

We all know bins occasionally go missing after the weekly visit of garbage collectors - to use the American vernacular - but puzzled North Herts resident James Hannigan, was left baffled as to why a binman would throw his purple recycling bin into his refuse truck.

Luckily James, who lives in Letchworth, caught the bizarre episode on video, that you watch below.

He said: "Really don't know what this binman's beef is but I've had two bins now go missing in the last couple months.

"Glad I caught this one on camera. I will be ringing the council...what's the point in recycling - this is an absolute disgrace. I'm fuming."

North Herts Council have been contacted for comment on this story, as well to inquire about the status of James' complaint as he tells us they haven't responded to him yet
