Broadway Gallery in Letchworth has launched a new exhibition which includes work from talented pupils at a local school.
A Whole New World exhibition will run until Sunday and is inspired by the creative work of Year 5 children at Pixmore Junior School and Garden City Academy.
The project is part of the Hertfordshire Cultural Education Partnership (HCEP) Partnership Investment commissions supported by the University of Hertfordshire, Royal Opera House Bridge and Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, delivered by commission recipient Glow Training working in partnership with Nysa Projects.
Imrana Mahmood, the HCEP Project Officer, said "the project and the exhibition has provided a platform for young people to create their own positive stories which celebrate some of the things which make them proud of Letchworth, with the opportunity to visualise their hopes and dreams for the town in which they live – young people's creativity has shone bright despite the challenges of the past year so their work is even more inspirational."
Excavating heritage stories that make up Letchworth's unique history was the main aim of the project and, in preparation for this, the children spent time considering Ebenezer Howard's vision for Letchworth Garden City, exploring his ideas to take the best from both the town and the countryside, designing - what was for him - the perfect environment in which modern communities could live.
The children worked with Nysa Projects to create their own sculptural responses reflecting on what would make up their own perfect worlds today.
The HCEP creative producers and artists spent three days with each of the schools creating the outside sculptural pieces which have been installed within each school's grounds.
In December last year, the year 5 children showcased some of their work online and spoke about the inspiration behind their ideas.
Curator at Broadway Gallery, Kristian Day said: "I've been really impressed by the work that the young people have produced and am really thrilled to be able to showcase it at the gallery. We work really hard to provide engaging arts activities for young people, and it's a real delight that these Year 5's have not only engaged with the project, but have done it with so much passion. Some real stars of the future here."
HCEP are committed to ensuring all young people in Hertfordshire have access to diverse and high-quality cultural opportunities and to provide a platform for them to be active co-creators of their own creative learning, whilst also sparking their ambitions to follow a potential career in the cultural industries.
The feedback on the project has been overwhelmingly positive and young participants from Pixmore said "I'm proud of myself and I've improved on my art skills" and "coming to the gallery and seeing my work makes me feel more confident".
Sarah Golding, of Glow Training, shared that "seeing the children's ideas come to life both in their schools and at the Broadway Gallery is a fantastic way to celebrate their hard work and brilliant creativity."
The exhibition will be running until Sunday 20, February.
