An 'EV charging zone' could soon be created at Letchworth's Morrisons if plans are approved by North Herts Council.

Motor Fuel Group has applied for planning permission to convert a number of normal parking spaces at the Broadway superstore into dedicated electric vehicle charging spots.

Plans show 19 spaces would be taken up, making space for 13 EV's to be charged.

A tree would also need to be removed to make way for the substation.

A previous application for the works was withdrawn last month, with this amended scheme then being put forward.

An accompanying noise assessment said: "Any dwelling more than 4m from the substation would be expected to have no adverse noise impact from the operation of the substation.

"Noise sensitive dwellings at least 40m from the front of the charging stations would have no adverse noise impact – this is based on the properties having a direct line of sight to the charging station.

"This distance reduces to below 5m if the dwellings are screened from the charging stations by the canopy that is installed behind and over the top of the charging stations."
