Families in our town will be receiving a boost thanks to a grant from Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.

Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation has made a grant of £6,008 to ADHD and ASC charity Angels Support Group so they can set up face to face workshops for families in Letchworth.

The funding will aid a program of workshops for parents, which will create the space for families to ask questions and help develop practical strategies to enable the children to reach their true potential.

Angels Parent Support Manager, Leise Cooper said: "We have been supporting families in Letchworth Garden City for many years, but we have seen an increase in demand for our services since the start of the pandemic and more parents needing access to our 1-2-1 service.

"In addition, we were approached by the Letchworth Schools Partnership Family Support Team, as they had identified that many families they see have children who either have a diagnosis of ASC or ADHD or who are in the diagnostic pathway for those conditions.

"This grant from the Heritage Foundation will help us to develop and co-deliver a programme of parent workshops for those identified by the Family Support Team.

"We also are thankful for The National Lottery Community Fund for providing additional support."

Workshops will explore ways in which parents can build strong working relationships with the professionals working with their children, such as school SENCOs, teachers, healthcare and social care workers.

As this can be a complex area, there is a need for an individualised approach, so sessions will run in small groups of up to four parents.

Alastair Stewart, Head of Grants and Partnerships at the Heritage Foundation added: "As part of a separately funded project with the Letchworth Family Support Team there has been growing evidence of a need for support in this area.

"It is great that we have an expert group such as the Angels Support Group based in Letchworth. This project will not only help families to manage on a day-to-day basis, hopefully, it will also provide opportunities for families to build long term friendship groups."

The next grants application deadline for Communities Looking Forward grant programme is Friday, February 25. If your group or charity is looking for support, visit letchworth.com/grants
