LETCHWORTH: Paid opportunities for young people interested in the arts

The Broadway Gallery have announced 'Young Team', a new project aiming to create opportunities for young people in Hertfordshire looking for a career in the art industry.

Letchworth's cultural hub is on the lookout for five people, aged 16-24, who would like to curate their own exhibition in our main gallery space this July.

The successful applicants will be handed the keys to the gallery, given guidance and mentoring on different career paths in the arts, gain first-hand experience of running a gallery and curating an exhibition and its supplementary programme.

This is an invaluable opportunity for anyone looking to gain work experience in the arts.

As well as receiving expert guidance and mentoring, and the chance to take over the gallery space, members of the Young Team will be paid a fee of £960 for approximately eight days work in the run up to the exhibition.

We hope this project will provide a platform for the young curatorial team to express themselves and explore issues relating to their generation.

The Broadway Gallery said: "Our intention is to provide this platform with minimum interference but rather to provide support – to facilitate, not lead, and enable the young team curators to have the freedom to clearly express themselves.

"We particularly encourage applications from disabled people and people from ethnic minority backgrounds, as these groups are currently under-represented in the cultural sector. Please note that applicants must be able to travel to the gallery."

To apply for Young Team please fill out the application form and equal opportunities form.

Deadline is May 1
