Letchworth: A new exhibition showcasing the brilliant work from young artists and creatives in our area will be launching later this month.

New Blood an exhibition featuring work by current art undergraduates and recent graduates from Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas will be coming to the Broadway Gallery from Thursday, November 25.

New Blood will feature the work of exceptional early career artists Helen Clarke, Sasha Furnèe Horton, Mia Hoskins, Jaime Jover, Louise Lahive, Daniela Mendes, Katarzyna Rubach, Shannon Ryan, Lydia Stonehouse, Krystina Tyrtania and Tyler Watson.

Organisers said: "The lockdown had devastating effects for art students over the last two years, degree shows were postponed, studios closed, lectures moved online and the opportunities to develop supportive peer groups diminished.

"To recognise this we are providing a number of these early career artists the opportunity to exhibit at the Broadway Gallery through November and December along with a mentoring programme that will, frankly, last until they no longer need our advice.

"This programme is open not just to the artists selected for New Blood but to all the artists who answered our open call."

However, the gallery also admit their decision to programme New Blood wasn't completely altruistic .

The gallery added: "We are always on the look-out for new artists in our area, and we hope that by running this and other future open calls we will strengthen our programme and reach wider demographics by virtue of now being introduced to such a wealth of talent.

"We see exhibitions like New Blood as a starting point for future collaborations and projects with the artists involved and those who applied but not selected."

A private view will be held on Thursday, November 25 prior to the launch of the exhibition that will run until the end of December.

Organisers added: 'To celebrate the launch of New Blood, come along and support the next generation of artists in our area."[.I]

New Blood is supported by the Art Fund.
