Witnesses sought following arson in Letchworth

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following an arson in Letchworth Garden City.

The incident occurred at the Tesco store in Middlefields, at around 12.45am on Wednesday (April 27).

A commercial bin was pushed against a storage area and set on fire. The fire then spread to the electricity store, causing the electricity supply to the supermarket to fail.

Detective Constable Nick Jenkins, from the North Herts Local Crime Unit, said: "Thankfully no one appears to have been injured during the incident, but it has resulted in damage to the building and to stock.

"Our enquiries are continuing at this time and, as part of this, we are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.

"Did you witness any suspicious activity in the area around the time? Did you capture anything of note on a dash cam? Any information at all could prove key to progressing our investigation so, if you can help, please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to please email [email protected]
