It's official! Letchworth is hotter than Lisbon today, Saturday (September 9).

The mercury in our town trumps the Portuguese capital as sunseekers flock to Letchworth hotspots such as Howard Park, Norton Common and of course, the outdoor pool on Icknield Way

Letchworth tops the charts at a sweltering 31C, while Lisbon checks in at 'only' 24C.

The weekend will continue a run of temperatures above 30C, with heat, flooding and air pollution warnings in place.

The UK has already had five days of temperatures above 30C in September for the first time, with that record likely to continue on Saturday and Sunday.

As a result, the UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber heat health alert.

The Met's yellow weather warning means some people could be in store for some flash flooding, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds, with possible interruptions to road access and public transport if such circumstances were to occur.
