Letchworth's MP, Sir Oliver Heald, our area's Parliamentarian for North East Herts, has welcomed Rishi Sunak becoming the new leader of the Conservative Party and the UK's latest Prime Minister.

Rishi Sunak is the first British PM of colour and also first Hindu at No 10, after losing to the now humiliated Liz Truss in the summer's leadership race, following the Tory party ousting previous incumbent Boris Johnson.

Sir Oliver said: "I supported Rishi Sunak in the contest and am pleased he has been elected with overwhelming support from MPs.

"He is experienced, has good judgement and will lead the country well.

"He unites Conservatives, but the real job ahead is to help the country through difficult economic times and to complete our Manifesto pledges."
