Letchworth Rugby Club's first Firework Spooktacular has raised funds of nearly £25,000 for the Garden House Hospice.

The event which was thought up by chairman Chris Lunnon attracted a crowd of 3,500 for the professional display which lasted nearly thirty minutes much to the delight of old and young alike.

President Brian Burke added: "I'd like to thank all the volunteers from the Club and Hospice who marshalled the event and made sure it went off with a real bang - if you ll excuse the pun.

"It's great to put back something substantial into such a worthwhile charity."

With suitable musical accompaniment such as Bad Moon Rising, Bat out of Hell, Monster Mash and the Addams Family the Legends Lane sky was filled with spectacular sights and sounds. There were also fair ground rides, hot food and drink stands to bring in extra money.

Fundraising coordinator Claire Lunnon said: "We are delighted at the efforts of our local rugby club in raising this fantastic sum for our organisation.

"To put it in perspective, however we need to raise the sum of £9,700 every day to provide our care free of charge so we won't be slacking our efforts in achieving this for our North Herts Community."
