LETCHWORTH: The Met Office has issues a yellow weather warning as Storm Barra approaches.

The high winds alert across our region comes fewer than seven days after Storm Arwen forced the cancellation of the big Christmas Lights Switch On in our town.

High winds are expected until Wednesday, with the possibility of a dusting of snow in some places.

The nation's forecaster has also warned of possible disruption to power and other services, with transport links including railway lines set to be impacted.

With gusts of up to 50mph, damage to property could also be expected.

There will also be outbreaks of rain and heavy showers, with the chance of hail and thunder.

The advice is generally to stay in if you possibly can, but if you have to go out, take care when driving, as there will be plenty of surface water and possibly even debris, making motoring hazardous.

The warnings are expected to last until around 6pm on Wednesday.
