LETCHWORTH: Storm Eunice has been blowing through our town today, Friday (February 18) felling trees and causing damage to fences.

Letchworth town centre bore the brunt of the most powerful winds to hit our area in more than three decades.

As you can see from our Nub News photographs, strong gusts brought down a tree in Norton Common Nature Reserve, a stone's throw from the centre of Letchworth.

The tree crashed through a low wooden fence and blocked vehicles from entering Norton Road car park.

Red warnings ended at 3pm in Letchworth but forecasters continue to be concerned.

While there have been no reports of injuries due to flying debris or power lines brought down in our area, a gust of wind blew over a wooden fence near to Norton Road.

A panel fence at blew onto the car park at Birchwood Surgery on Nevells Road. Nub News understands that no-one was injured.

There were also reports of a garden wall collapsing onto a footpath at Denbigh Road, prior to a fire truck attending the scene just after 2pm. While a fallen tree blocked Common View at around 3pm until the emergency services attended to secure the scene.

An amber warning for gusts up to 80mph still covers the whole of England until 9pm tonight - having started at 5am.
