Hello from David's!
Did you know that David's Books, Music and Café are owned by the employees?
That's right – we're an Employee Ownership Trust (or EOT for short!)
This move happened in March 2020, a time we remember now for very different reasons – so you'd be forgiven for having missed the memo!
So, what's an EOT?
It's a form of ownership created by the government to encourage wider employee participation in businesses, similar to the John Lewis & Waitrose partnerships.
The EOT structure means a trust holds the shares in the business for the long-term benefit of employees, who run the business and share profits.
One of the highest profile recent examples is the home entertainment group Richer Sounds.
Whilst we're focused on preserving the core of what makes David's so successful, we want to pour our energy into building on that success and pushing forward.
We've been busy updating and streamlining things (e-commerce websites, Patreon, book clubs, events etc) behind the scenes in a bid to make David's the best it can be.
David's Café
Amongst many exciting changes happening in the shop, one of the most notable is the transformation of David's Café.
We know many of you have missed popping in for your coffees and cheese scones. This week it has made a very welcome return - we're now back and better than ever.
The Café itself has had a bit of a facelift. We've moved the counter to make better use of the space and the menu has had a revamp – look out for daily specials and Sunday brunches.
You'll notice the sound system upgrade too, something we're particularly proud of, and something we're hoping to make use of at upcoming events.
We hope to see you in there soon!
