Livestock worrying prevention operation conducted in North Herts

An initiative aimed at raising awareness of the impact of livestock worrying and preventing future incidents was carried out in North Herts at the weekend.

On Saturday (16 March), the Royston Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team headed to Halls Green, Weston, as part of a national initiative called Operation Recall.

The operation aims to drastically reduce the number of incidents where animals suffer, whether that's injured livestock or dogs killed as consequence of an attack.

PCSO Hannah Moss said: "We attended a local dog walking spot which backs on to a new up-coming equestrian livery yard, which has had concerns of dogs getting loose in the horse paddocks.

"We spoke to dog owners in the area about the problem and provided tips on keeping their dogs, and livestock, safe.

"They also signed up to take the lead and sign a pledge for animals (Take the lead and sign a pledge for animals! | Naturewatch Foundation).

"The main piece of advice for dog owners is to always keep their dogs on a lead around livestock."
