Two new flats could be created above a Letchworth bank, if plans are signed off by the council.

A planning application has been submitted to change a first floor office above Nationwide on Leys Avenue into apartments.

If approved, the application to North Herts Council would see two, one-bedroom flats created.

Access to the flats would be from the Arcade, and the bank would not be impacted by the works.

"The application makes use of existing accommodation in a highly sustainable location," the application said.

"Changes to the external appearance are minimal and sympathetic to the existing building and the wider conservation area.

"The second floor of the building has already been converted to residential use."

Plans show a new window would be installed to the back of the property, for one of the flats.

"The proposals make no change to the appearance or scale of the building, other than the introduction of a new window on the rear (North) elevation," the plans added.
