Witness appeal following a swastika symbol appearing in several places around Baldock

Police are investigating reports of the Nazi image synonymous with fascism and anti-Semitism which has appeared in Baldock this week.

Officers are working with the local authority to ensure that the swastika symbol that appeared in several areas around the park area on Clothall Road and also at the Bush Spring playground, is removed.

Sergeant Chris Adshead, of the North Herts Community Safety Unit, said: "We take incidents like this seriously, and due to the offensive nature of this graffiti we are working to get it quickly removed.

"This kind of behaviour has no place anywhere, if you have any information which could help with our enquiries please contact 101."

Call 101 quoting ISR 805 of 20 March or ISR 667 of 18 March.

"For the Jewish people the swastika is a symbol of fear, of suppression, and of extermination. It's a symbol that we will never ever be able to change," said 93-year-old Holocaust survivor Freddie Knoller said speaking to the BBC in 2014.

"For the people who went through the Holocaust, we will always remember what the swastika was like in our life - a symbol of pure evil," Mr Knoller said.
