Organisers have thanked the local community for its last-gasp support for North Herts Pride.

With just days left, North Herts Pride was faced with the real possibly that its Pride Market on July 20 would have to be cancelled, due to a lack of funds.

A desperate plea was posted on Instagram for help from the North Herts community.

On Monday morning things looked bleak with around £300 in donations on the just giving page, but in the space of just over 24 hours the local community really stepped up, and by 9:30pm on Tuesday the raised money now stood at an "astonishing" £1,700 - and the local community "showed that Pride really does matter".

Organisers have also shared huge thanks to a number of local organisations including Flame and Dame and Square one Gym who have sponsored the event.

And to "Liam", who donated £500, organisers would "love to thank you personally".

"It's even more astonishing that we are living in a time when everyone is really feeling the pinch financially," organisers said.

"The fact is that North Herts Pride market will now go ahead, is a testament to the love that there still is in the world.

"By holding events like this, we can reach out to those who need help and show them that they aren't alone, and that there is a place for them, as well as educating and changing attitudes.

"A huge 'thank you', must go out to everyone who donated or supported our event. If you would like to help us to keep holding events and being a lifeline you can find North Herts PRIDE on just giving.

"Once again, thank you so much."
