Queen Elizabeth II: Remembering our beloved Monarch - A poem by Alan Doggett

We hear the news that our Queen has passed away

Such sadness on this Thursday

Her dedication and commitment over 70 years

Her loss has bought many tears

Selfless service and dedication to our nation and beyond in every way

So many people she met on many a day

From the death of her father in 1952 she alone

Ascended to the throne

The Coronation in 1953

Millions watched on the streets and on TV

Beside her and throughout her life

Was her husband Prince Phillip always there for his wife

After Xmas Dinner and feeling so full

We would watch the Queen address us all

Without sensation

She reached out to the nation

As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother her family meant so much

With all of them she had such a loving touch

When in 2002 sadly two deaths hit her

The loss of her mother and sister

During Covid she stood tall

An inspiration to us all

In April 2021 her husband sadly passed away

Seeing her sitting alone in Windsor was very poignant that day

What a wonderful sense of humour we saw

Two classic moments where we were in awe

At the Olympics with James Bond jumping from a plane we could see

And at her Platinum Jubilee with Paddington Bear having tea

So as we all say thankyou and bid farewell to our Queen

An amazing person we have all seen

We welcome in her son Charles as the new King

Sending him all of the best as his reign doth begin
