Sir Oliver Heald MP has called for compensation for a Lower Stondon postmistress wrongly convicted in the Post Office scandal.

Mrs Jasvinder Barang took over the Lower Stondon Post Office following the death of her husband, and was wrongly convicted after an IT mistake erroneously resulted in money missing from accounts.

Mrs Barang was one of 93 postmasters and mistresses to have their wrongful convictions overturned.

North East Hertfordshire's MP Sir Oliver Heald is now pressing through parliamentary questions for full and final compensation for Mrs Barang.

Sir Oliver thundered: "Mrs Barang suffered a great ordeal and was one of the first postmistresses to have her conviction overturned.

"Her family have suffered too. It is time she now received her full and final compensation settlement.

"I have raised this with the Minister in person and by parliamentary questions and hope this will result in urgent action.

"I also support attempts to speed up justice for others and speedy compensation."

Sir Oliver has tabled a parliamentary question and has already met Post Office Minister Kevin Hollinrake to press the case for full and final compensation for Mrs Barang. The MP has also attended meetings with postmasters and mistresses and the relevant Select Committee hearings.
