Tree-mendous effort as Letchworth bank staff plant 600 saplings

Colleagues from a Letchworth specialist business bank left the comfort of their offices to dig deep and plant hundreds of trees as part of a royal initiative.

A dozen employees from Letchworth-based Redwood Bank gathered at the Hertfordshire County Showground, near Redbourn, on Tuesday, December 6, to put the 600 trees in the ground.

The saplings had been donated by the Bank to the Queen's Green Canopy (QGC), a project to mark Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

Graham Reynolds, the Bank's Director of ESG, who helped with the planting, said: "We chose the QGC as one of our charities for the year to mark a momentous occasion for the Queen. In light of her death, our decision to support the scheme feels more poignant."

Bank colleagues were joined by Sarah Moreland, Executive Director of the Hertfordshire Agricultural Society, for the mammoth undertaking.

Graham said: "Planting 600 saplings is no easy job, but we had no shortage of volunteers wanting to help. Being part of our community means a lot to the Bank and the people who work in it.

"It is fantastic that we have had the opportunity to contribute something meaningful to the environment and enhance a county showpiece. It is a fitting end to what has been a memorable year for us."

Redwood Bank, which celebrated its fifth birthday in 2022 and also revealed its first annual profit, is also supporting mental health charity PoetsIN this year and has so far donated £6,000 to its good causes.

The QGC encourages everyone from individuals to community groups, schools and towns and cities to plant trees to create a lasting legacy in honour of the Queen's reign.
