The return of an eagerly-anticipated event in our area has proved to be a big hit - with more than £7,000 raised for local community causes.

Wonderful Willian Village Fair made a hugely successful comeback after an absence of two years due to the pandemic this month.

The traditional event in the picture-postcard village of Willian, situated between Letchworth and Hitchin, made a welcome appearance for the first time since 2019.

Speaking to Letchworth Nub News, Royston Jones, member of the Willian Fair Committee, said: "It was a great community event. The best Willian Fair yet.

"A big thank you to everyone who came and supported the fair. It's great to have it back after such an absence.

"We're already starting to look towards next year."

Organisers estimated many hundreds of people attended the event on the first weekend in July - which saw a raft of family fun on offer including 'Bash-A-Rat', coconut shy, bouncy castles, book stalls, a selection of arts and crafts to name but a few.

There were also mouth-watering homemade cakes and a busy barbecue, while event supporters The Fox at Willian also offered food.

Entertainment came from Letchworth Town Band as well as Garden City Samba - and all for a great cause, as the money raised is channelled to All Saints' Church and the village hall.
