The winners of the 2022 Letchworth Open bursary have been announced.

The Letchworth Open is an annual celebration of visual arts in Letchworth and provides an opportunity for anyone in our region's community, from all ages, abilities and career levels, to become an exhibited artist in our beautiful Broadway Gallery.

Three artists have been awarded a £1,000 bursary and a solo presentation of their work in the space in 2023. Additionally, there are four prizes awarded in relation to painting; drawing and illustration; photography and applied arts.

Organisers said: "This year we were overwhelmed by the quality and exceptional talent of all the artists who participated in this our annual Open and received a staggering 380 submissions."We have carefully consulted with last years recipients to invite three artists to exhibit at the Broadway Gallery in February 2023.

"These artists are: Nigel Grimmer, Emma Phillips and Tabitha Wilson whose works show considerable strength and promise.

"We are delighted to award a further four prizes for Painting, Drawing & Illustration, Photography and Applied Arts. These prizes will be given to; Jennifer Buttleman for Drawing & Illustration, Paul Robinson for Painting, Anta Mainule-Miligana for Photography and finally Ken Ager for Applied Arts."

Building on the success of last year's inaugural Letchworth Open, which, due to Covid restrictions, had to take place online - which will see the 2022 Letchworth Open host more than 300 art works, beautifully displayed within the Broadway Gallery space.

Organisers added: "We are delighted that this year, more than 77 per cent of the entrants are 1st time applicants, with media used including painting, ceramic sculpture, textile, design, photography and printing."
