'For reasons unknown' at this time, a woman fell from a moving vehicle on the A1(M) - leaving her with 'life-changing injuries'.

The woman in her sixties fell from a moving vehicle on the A1(M) on Wednesday, (April 3).

Police were called to the southbound carriageway between Junction 9 (Letchworth) and Junction 8 (Stevenage North), around 1120am.

The carriageway was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, with two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, two ambulance officer vehicles, and three fire engines also in attendance.

Traffic on the northbound side of the motorway was also halted for a short time to allow Essex & Herts Air Ambulance to attend the incident.

The woman was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital by road ambulance.

Herts police said that she fell "for reasons unknown at this time".

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service said they had been called to reports of "a collision between a car and a camper van" - while Herts Police confirmed the camper van involved was a Peugeot Boxer.
