Man charged in connection with fires in Letchworth 

A man has been charged with two counts of arson following fires in Letchworth town centre. 

The fires were started in different locations in the early hours of Tuesday (October 11).

No one was injured as a result, but a significant amount of damage was caused. 

Amal Perera, aged 32, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of arson.

He appeared at Hatfield Remand court today (Wednesday 12 October) where he was remanded into custody. He will next appear at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, November 14.

Inspector Ben Smith, from the North Herts Local Crime Unit, said: "While someone has been arrested and charged in relation to these incidents, we are still looking to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what happened who can assist with our enquiries."
