Update: 'A lot of businesses have been lost' after large fire at Baldock Industrial Estate

Update: Baldock Industrial Estate on London Road site of large fire

Herts Firefighters have been busy extinguishing a fire in Baldock Industrial Estate on London Road.

Road closures were put in place on Tuesday afternoon (July 11) with the general public asked to avoid the area while the incident was dealt with.

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to the scene at 615pm yesterday, and remain at the scene today, Wednesday (July 12).

Herts police and the East of England Ambulance Service also attended, with no casualties reported.

Herts Fire Service said: "Please be aware the Fire & Rescue Service are at a fire on Baldock Road Industrial Estate.

"Those living nearby are asked to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with."

Pictures circulating on social media showed smoke billowing into the air around the area, with the Baldock Tyre/Exhaust & MOT centre on fire.

Thankfully no lives were lost. However local businesses have been affected.

'A lot of businesses have been lost'

While no casualties have been reported, the fire has Impacted a number of businesses operating on the industrial estate.

One of those businesses, Marsh Detailing, posted on Instagram about "losing everything we've worked so hard to get".

"To rub salt in the wound", they say that their contents insurance was due for renewal last week but they had delayed doing so as they were "away on a well deserved holiday".
