Ickleford's iconic former Bowman's Mill site is up for sale after planning permission has been granted for up to 71 new homes on the site.

As Nub News has been reporting proposals for a 'Mill Quarter' area has been accepted close to the River Oughton - with the 9.17 acre site for sale - listed by estate agents Savills.

Abigail Jones, director in the development team at Savills said the team is now inviting offers from developers.

She said: "We're delighted to be playing a role in bringing this important site back into use and we're looking forward to seeing how the plans for the project take shape.

"It's an excellent opportunity to deliver high quality homes on previously developed land outside of the greenbelt within the village boundary.

"Ickleford is an attractive village that is well connected to the surrounding area – just a short distance from the likes of Hitchin and Cambridge, with good access to plenty of amenities including a village store, several pubs, primary school and sports facilities – so we're already seeing strong interest."

Decision-makers finally granted planning permission for the 71 new homes almost seven years after developers made their first application.

Under the terms of the outline planning permission, the new properties would be made up of two and three-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses.

Several nearby buildings including siloes, sheds and office space would also be demolished.

Savills is inviting offers for the site until 12 noon on Thursday, May 2. Contact Abigail Jones on 01223 347094 or email [email protected]
