Could Letchworth outdoor pool face summer closures due to chlorine shortages

We are all looking forward to the re-opening of Letchworth's outdoor pool this weekend as we reported earlier this week.
However, could the prospect of swimming outdoors and sunbathing at the pool on Icknield Way this summer be marred by the prospect of closures?
The all too real reason behind such concerns is to do with a global chlorine shortage.
A perfect storm of worldwide transportation problems, allied with ongoing Brexit issues, Covid-related disruptions to the supply chain, and a large fire at a US chemical plant have all led to a reduced supply of chlorine in the UK, including our area.
Major pools in the east have already been forced to close in recently, including one of the largest indoor facilities at Sportspark in Norwich, which shut for nearly a week earlier this month.
Chris Hayes, managing director for the Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association (SPATA), said the issues should be short-term but must be monitored closely.
"We are aware that some public pools have needed to close temporarily," he told ITV News, adding "Chemical suppliers will be working with these leisure facilities to look at other appropriate pool chemicals that can be used.
"SPATA believes these issues will be short-term, but encourages leisure facilities to monitor the situation and work closely with their chemical suppliers."
North Herts Council have been contacted for comment.
