Plans to demolish and rebuild a Letchworth house have been given the green light by council planners.

A planning application to flatten 34 Pasture Road to make way for a new six-bed home has been approved by North Herts Council.

A previous scheme to extend and remodel the existing building had already been given the go-ahead, but now planners have said the building can be removed and completely replaced.

A council report said the new home will be "identical in scale, form, and materials" to that approved previously.

"The only material change is that instead of treating the proposal as extensions and alterations to the existing dwelling, the applicants are proposing to demolish and rebuild the dwelling instead," it added.

Signing off on the application, the council report said: "In my view, seeing as the proposed development is identical to that approved under previous applications at this site, but is a demolish and rebuilt full planning application rather than an extend and alter householder application, it is considered that the proposed is acceptable in design terms.

"There is a wider variety of architectural styles and materials on this street scene and as a result, it is not considered reasonable to object on this basis."
