LETCHWORTH: The renowned Garden House Hospice Care is supporting the idea of protecting your loved ones by making a will this autumn
October is officially Make a Will month and people without a will in our town and across North Herts are being encouraged to take advantage of Garden House Hospice Care's Make a Will Month campaign.
The initiative which runs through the whole of October, will see a number of local solicitors waiving their usual will-writing fee in exchange for a donation to the Letchworth-based charity.
"Thank you to all of our participating solicitors and will-writers, who have kindly agreed to provide their expertise and skills for free in return for a donation to the Hospice this October," says Harry Folgate, fundraising coordinator at the Garden House
"Making a will is something many of us tend to put off. This campaign month is a great incentive to finally address our future wishes whilst supporting a fantastic local charity.
"Having your will created or updated via this campaign is also a more affordable way of carrying out the process – usual fees often start at £220 for a basic will.
"The financial impact of the recent pandemic has had a substantial effect on the hospice, so any support that our fantastic community can give us by taking part will be hugely appreciated."[.I]
Making a will is the only way you can be sure that your wishes will be carried out and your loved ones will be protected after you have died.
With only a third of the UK population believed to have a will, it's a job many of us put off but this is where the hospice's campaign can help.
In total there are seven participating solicitors taking part in Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth and Royston.
Make a will with Friis & Radstone
Renata Shieff, a solicitor at Friis & Radstone in Letchworth, which is participating in the campaign said: "I decided to support Garden House Hospice Care's Make a Will campaign as I live and work locally.
"Garden House Hospice undertakes amazing work at the most challenging times and being part of the local community I was very keen to support the hospice.
"The benefits of making a will cannot be underestimated.
"A properly drafted will provides both the individual and their family members with peace of mind that their affairs are in order, that their estate is tax efficient, and that the will has been properly drafted to ensure any potential challenges brought will not be successful.
"The rules of intestacy that apply when someone dies without a valid will can lead to unexpected results and cause unnecessary stress to the family at an already upsetting time."
To take advantage of Make a Will Month, contact a participating solicitor directly and book an appointment, quoting Garden House Hospice Care.
During your appointment you will then be invited to make a suggested donation to the hospice.
The suggested minimum donations are £100 for a basic single will, £150 for a basic mirror will and £80 for updates. You may incur further charges if your will is complex.
Participating solicitors are Friis & Radstone here in Letchworth, Tollers, Legal Legacy Services Ltd, Hamilton Davies Solicitors, HRJ Foreman Laws, Curwens Solicitors and Pellys Solicitors.
