Gravestones vandalised at St Mary’s Church in Baldock

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a number of gravestones were vandalised at St Mary's Church in Church Street.

It is reported that several gravestones within the church graveyard have been damaged as well as damage to some vehicles in the vicinity.

The incident took place sometime between 2am and 4am on Friday 19 July.

Sergeant Ryan Champion of North Herts Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "I am appealing to anyone who has doorbell cameras to check the footage to see if there is anything captured that may help our enquiries.

"Additionally, please if you were driving in the area, and have dashcam cameras, also check the footage to see if it has captured anything and if you were in the area at the time of the incident and have information, please contact the local officer PC Sam Durham."

Chief Inspector Hannah Treadwell of North Herts Local Policing Command said: "I would like to reassure residents of the local area that we are doing all we can to trace those responsible for the acts of criminal damage.

"At this time, patrols in the local area are heightened and house to house enquiries are taking place."
