Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation is "pleased to announce a key milestone" in its development of up to 900 new homes, a local centre, and a school to the north of Letchworth.

Following a consultation with residents, businesses, councils and organisations; the strategic masterplan framework was presented to cabinet at North Herts Council on Tuesday 9 July.

The report asked cabinet to "positively recommend the approval of the strategic masterplan framework for the land to the north of Letchworth Garden City to full council".

Cabinet enthusiastically endorsed the framework which was then presented to full council on Thursday 11 July, where it was given full approval, "to facilitate the delivery of a strategic site within the council's adopted local plan".

Graham Fisher, chief executive of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation said: "We are delighted that North Herts Council has given approval to this scheme – it's been a fascinating journey working with residents to really understand what they want from it.

"I'm really proud of the plan that we've presented and am looking forward to sharing more details with you as we press on with this exciting project."

Following this decision, work now begins on engaging with developers and house builders to make the scheme a reality.
