Library celebrates Reusable Nappy Week

Herts North Nappy Library celebrates Reusable Nappy Week from today, (Monday, April 25) to May 1.

The week is celebrated across the world by cloth nappy producers and retailers, nappy libraries and other networks to highlight how reusable nappies can help families reduce waste, save money and keep their babies healthy.

A baby in the UK could produce about 1.75t of waste whilst in disposable nappies, which is 9 campervans full going into landfill. There the nappies will sit for about 500 years producing climate harming emissions. By switching to reusables families would save the cost of having to buy disposable nappies and could potentially save up to £1000.

To make it easier for families to find the right reusable option, North Herts Nappy Library is offering inexpensive rental kits that help clients to try before buying. The library is part of NCT Herts North, a charity supporting families settling into life with their new baby.

"It's been really useful as a test of various styles and methods. The wipes have been brilliant, we've fully transitioned to using those." says former client Ben.

Eurydice, another client, says: "I thought it was fantastic to be able to try the nappies."

"To be very honest I am thrilled with the box. I went through all the nappies to find which ones suited my son's shape best." says former client Georgia.

The library offers either standard starter kits to fit newborn or older babies, or bespoke sets to help families try certain types of nappies.

Bookings can be made via their website: www.nct.org.uk
