Letchworth Lionesses Academy shines bright at Hertford Floodlit Minis Girls Touch Rugby Tournament

In the spirit of unity and camaraderie, Letchworth Rugby Club continues to champion the cause of women's and girls' rugby, providing a supportive environment where players of all ages and abilities can thrive.

From the Lionesses Academy to the senior women's team, every player is encouraged to dream big, work hard, and embrace the values that make rugby such a special sport.

As we celebrate the triumphs of our women and girls and look ahead to a bright future, let us remember that the true essence of rugby lies not just in winning games but in fostering lifelong friendships, building character, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential – both on and off the field.

Here's to the future stars of Letchworth Rugby Club – may their passion for the game continue to shine brightly for years to come.

Letchworth Lionesses Academy triumph

In a heartwarming display of teamwork, resilience, and sheer determination, the young minis girls from Letchworth Lionesses Academy took the rugby field by storm at the 'Girls in the Spotlight' floodlit touch rugby tournament hosted by Hertford Rugby Club.

With excitement in the air and passion in their hearts, these budding athletes showcased not only their athletic prowess but also the core values that make rugby such a special sport.

Led by dedicated coaches and fueled by their love for the game, 15 mini girls from Letchworth arrived at Hertford, divided into two teams: a U8/U9 group and a U10/U11 group. Despite facing challenges such as delayed and cancelled training sessions leading up to the tournament due to the weather, these young athletes remained undeterred, embracing the opportunity to learn and grow together as a team.

The girls demonstrated remarkable adaptability as they familiarised themselves with the specific rules of the tournament, closely resembling touch rugby league, on the night itself. Under the guidance of the coaches, they quickly grasped the nuances of the game, showcasing their ability to learn and apply new skills on the fly.

Throughout the tournament, the girls displayed exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship on the field. Despite facing tough opposition and tight games, they worked tirelessly to thwart their opponents' attacks while creating opportunities of their own.

Among the standout performers was Lexi in our U8/9 team, who exemplified the values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship – qualities that lie at the heart of rugby's ethos.

Her outstanding performance earned her the prestigious TREDS trophy, a testament to her exceptional character and dedication to the sport.

The pride and joy felt by the coaches and club officials were palpable as they watched their young charges compete with passion and determination.

As Coach Emma aptly remarked, "Lexi's success is just the beginning of many more achievements to come for the young star.

"Her grit, determination, and can do attitude are the best tools in any young lady's arsenal.

"Lexi is a true team player, a pleasure to coach and we know this is the first of many awards to come for this little lady - watch this space!"

While Danny Ryall, Minis chair, expressed his pride in both teams and highlighted Lexi's exemplary sportsmanship as a shining example of the values instilled at Letchworth.

However, the celebrations didn't end there.

On Sunday, the Letchworth Lionesses women's team took to the field against Datchworth women at home and emerged victorious with a resounding 22-10 win.

The match was not just about securing a victory; it was a celebration of women's rugby and the progress made by the Lionesses in nurturing talent, promoting inclusivity, and empowering the next generation of female players.
