Letchworth: A mixed secondary school and sixth form awarded has been awarded a 'Good' Ofsted rating.

Fearnhill School on Icknield Way has been handed an improved Ofsted rating - rising from 'Requires Improvement' to 'Good' in the three years since its previous inspection.

Ofsted inspectors visited the school at the beginning of last term, on September 13 and 14, and were impressed by what they saw.

Ofsted's inspectors noted the learning establishment was 'like a family' with pupils 'happy and safe' and 'enjoy' school.

The report said: "Pupils value the positive relationships they have with staff and each other. They learn important values such as tolerance and compassion. In their experience, it is fine to be different. Classroom routines are well established to support all pupils to participate fully in their lessons.

"Pupils are engaged in their lessons and learn effective strategies for remembering new information. This helps them to achieve well.

"Pupils know how to behave appropriately. They behave well in the vast majority of lessons and during social time. The school environment is calm and orderly. Pupils enjoy school."

Head teacher Liz Ellis has been approached for comment on the good news. See Letchworth Nub News for more on this subject soon.
