LETCHWORTH: The unusually warm spell has come to an end today [Tuesday, January 4], with temperatures dropping by up to 10C across our area.

Rain, along with an arctic chill has arrived, bringing frost and icy road conditions.

Compared to the 16C experienced in the south east on New Years Day temperatures are now around 7C in our town and surrounding areas - although with the wind chill factor it will feel far colder.

Tom Morgan, a Met Office meteorologist, said: "It's not just the cold air which will make us feel so much colder – it's also going to be the strength of the wind. When these factors are combined, the change will be a shock to the system."
