Letchworth: The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across our area as the heatwave subsides later.

The warning is for tomorrow, Wednesday (July 20) between 1pm and 9pm, when heavy rain and thunderstorms could bring disruption during the afternoon as well as lower temperatures, the nation's forecaster has cautioned.

Showery rain is set to push eastwards tonight, with clear spells elsewhere with the prospect of a far cooler day tomorrow.

The UK has recorded a temperatures of over 40C (104F) for the first time.

Thermometers hit 40.3C at Coningsby in Lincolnshire, at 4pm, well above the previous high of 38.7C in 2019.
