Muddy Mayhem event returns this month - organised by Letchworth's Garden House Hospice Care

A local hospice is hosting a fundraiser on the grounds of Woodhall Estate later this month. Muddy Mayhem is a 5km running event consisting of natural and man-made obstacles to tackle.

There's also a "shorter but equally fun" Mini Mudder for under-11s.

Cousins, seven-year-old Jaziel and 11-year-old Mayson are taking on the Mini Mudder to support the Hospice after their great-auntie Diane received care from the hospice at home team and on the inpatient unit.

The pair have already raised more than £2,000 in sponsorship between them.

Jaziel said: "Mayson signed up first and my mum thought I wouldn't want to do it as it involves running through rivers and getting dirty.

"But when I saw the video, I thought it looked fun and I knew it was for a good cause, so I said I'd do it.

"I'm always running around doing something active, so I wanted to challenge myself and help the Hospice raise money so they can help people like my Auntie Didi."

The event takes place next weekend, Sunday, March 24, and is organised by Garden House Hospice Care in Letchworth.

It offers a group challenge for friends, families, teams and corporates while raising vital funds toward the Hospice's services.

Adam Brockett, product and events lead at Garden House Hospice Care, explained: "We can't wait for the return of our legendary event.

"Last year was quite possibly our muddiest Muddy Mayhem yet, but the rain and dirt didn't stop us from having a blast.

"More than 500 people participated, raising over £20,000. That's enough to run the entire hospice for two days.

"Whatever people's reasons for taking part - whether just for a laugh, a challenge, a team day out or in memory of a loved one - Muddy Mayhem promises a day of intense hilarity.

"You can expect to be helping each other through fast-flowing streams, up and down muddy banks and over mud-caked climbing frames."

Muddy Mayhem tickets are on sale on Garden House Hospice Care's website until midnight on Wednesday (March 20).

There are two ticket options available for adults: £20 to cover the cost of your entry with a pledge to raise sponsorship for taking part, or £59 which covers your entry fee with the remainder serving as a donation toward the Hospice's services.

Children aged 11-17 pay £15 and the Mini Mudder (ages 5-10) is £5.
