Herts Police are investigating the possibility of a fire in Baldock was arson.

Officers believe a fire that destroyed a stable in Baldock over the weekend may have been started deliberately.

Police and fire crews attended Weston Way at 1040am on Sunday (April 7), in a bid to extinguish a fire in a wooden stable.

Herts Police confirmed the mysterious blaze may have been deliberate, saying: "Police were called by the fire service at around 1040am (on Sunday April 7), following reports a wooden stable was on fire in Weston Way, Baldock.

"It is the believed the fire may have been started deliberately and enquiries are continuing."

A Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "We were called at 10.34am to reports of a fire in an outbuilding on Weston Way, Baldock.

"Two fire engines, from Letchworth & Baldock and Hitchin fire stations were sent to the scene, where crews found a stable building well alight, with the fire spreading to nearby trees and vegetation.

"Firefighters contained and extinguished the fire, which was all out by 1105am."
