Pub team hoping for doubles in darts charity marathon

A village pub darts team is aiming to hit its double charity target with a 24-hour stint at the oche.

On Saturday, June 25, players from the Fox and Duck in Therfield will be throwing arrows around the clock to raise funds for two special causes.

No stranger to hosting a charity event, Ivan Titmuss, landlord of the pub, said the darts marathon was the most ambitious to date.

His team of 12 players will start playing darts at noon and the final arrow will be thrown at noon the following day. The pub will remain open for the duration of the marathon challenge to allow supporters to cheer on the players.

Money raised the event will be shared by Jasmine's Legacy of Dreams and the Therfield, Royston and Kelshall Sports Association (TRAKSA).

Jasmine's Legacy of Dreams was set up by Jasmine Moseley, who was just 17 when she was diagnosed with leukaemia. Throughout her treatment, she met many young people in a similar position and it was her wish to set up a charity that could provide support for them.

Ivan said: "Jasmine was the niece of one of our players. She sadly died two years ago when she was just 19.

"In spite of her own challenges, she was an extremely caring and loving woman and she wanted to be able to do something to help teens and young adults who are having their own battle with cancer.

"TRAKSA is also a cause close to our hearts with a lot of our regulars involved in sport in the area, and the new community sports centre in Therfield is something we're passionate about."

The players will rotate throughout the 24 hours to try to grab some sleep whenever they can, and members of the public have been invited to come and spend some time at the oche themselves during the event.

Ivan said: "This is going to be a really ambitious challenge, but everyone is up for it and ready to give it their best shot.

"It would be incredible if our regulars and anyone else who is available could come in, encourage the players, and even throw some darts. I know it will mean a lot to them as they fight tiredness."
