A Hitchin wedding company has added a 50-year-old stag to its fleet, in the latest of a series of new vehicles ready for a summer of events.

The 1976 Triumph Stag is the second of four new vehicles to be unveiled by Lucky Penny Weddings, coming hot on the heels of the 60-year-old Jaguar MK2 revealed last month.

The company was launched in 2021 by entrepreneur Kate Peto who swapped her pre-pandemic job at a local care home to start her own business.

Lucky Penny Weddings was started with vintage 1966 split-screen, cream coloured VW Microbus 'Penny'.

And now the sports car has been added to the garage, with its own special history.

"The previous owner of this 1976 Triumph Stag brought it for his wife over 40 years ago as a wedding anniversary gift," Kate explained.

"It stayed in their family and was used as car for their daughter's wedding.

"Italian design, the Stag was launched to compete with Mercedes-Benz. With 26,000 of them powered forward by a 3.0L V8 engine.

"Less than one third of them survive."

The stag - similar to that driven by James Bond in Diamonds are Forever - will be available with a hard top or the roof down for happy couples.

Over the coming weeks Kate will be showcasing the other three new sets of wheels, and is encouraging couples to consider adding a touch of style to their wedding.
