LETCHWORTH: With the news that our town's Christmas Lights Switch-On has been cancelled due to safety fears over expected high winds, residents have shared their opinions.

With strong winds forecast, organisers have taken no chances and rightly called off the event, underlining that visitors' safety is paramount.

While no-one can fault the difficult, but correct, decision to call off the event, people in Letchworth have reacted to the news.

Posting comments on the official LoveLetchworth instagram account, people were overwhelmingly sympathetic.

Nomoralstatoos posted: "Understandable! Hopefully we can do it another time.

Fragrance.of.life wrote: "Such a shame with all the preparation...we await further updates, Storm Arwen will blow over but our community will still be here supporting our local businesses and organisations."

belisily_kidscape added: "Such a shame after all the effort you guys have put into organising and also for the local businesses that were preparing for it. Fingers crossed for another time!"
