Letchworth town centre is gearing up for arguably its biggest day of the year this weekend.

As Letchworth Nub News has been reporting in our detailed What's On guide, preparations are going well for the eagerly-awaited Christmas Lights Switch On on Saturday.

The town centre is expected to be full of families savouring the fun of the Letchworth lights - so why not make a full day of it.

Here are Six Things to do in Letchworth before our town's Christmas Lights Switch On - courtesy of the team at Letchworth Festival.

Letchworth Festival says:

Aside from all the entertainment and sparkle going on - live music and performers from 11am, parade and lights switch on as darkness falls ... there are several quieter, interesting places to escape to.

It's a fantastic day for exploring local art galleries and exhibitions.

We know of these six taking place, and all are free to enter:

1 - Open Day at Digswell Artists Studios, in the Fenners Building just off the Wynd - from 10am to 6pm, with a host of talented artists and crafts people sharing what they do

2 - A Fractured Glimpse

Two of the Digswell artists - Stuart Jones and Abi Freckleton - have a special exhibition on called 'A Fractured Glimpse'. They're using a vacant unit on Station Road as their venue. On until December 13

3 - 'Forging a Family' exhibition is on at the Museum at One Garden City

It features tales of West Indian families in Letchworth and has a great video of steel drum workshops held at the Jackmans Community Centre in the summer.

4 - Letchworth Lives and Landscapes

An unmissable exhibition that's on at the Broadway Gallery. Amazing archive artwork of early Garden City life and pioneering women and men.

5 - Wynd Gallery Christmas exhibition

Support local artists and crafters by visiting exhibition in full swing

6 - Beamer Wildflower

Over at Eastcheap Project Space and Studios, just off Leys Square, Saturday sees the final day of the 'Beamer Wildflower' exhibition in this contemporary art space. Don't tell everyone but there's also a closing party at 6pm.

And once you've visited all these brilliant Letchworth events, galleries and art exhibitions on an 'arty and smarty' day out then it's time for the Christmas Lights Switch On.

With thanks to the brilliant Letchworth Festival
