David's Bookshop has been hailed as one of the best independent book stores in the country by The Times.

The national newspaper only confirmed what everyone in our town and North Herts already knew - David's Bookshop is absolutely brilliant.

On March 30, 1963 David's Bookshop opened its doors for the very first time at Station Place. Fast forward six decades and the highly-acclaimed - and much-love bookshop is still going strong - and picking up prestigious accolades along the way.

The bookshop, fully ensconced at 14 Eastcheap is a magnet for book lovers not just in Letchworth but across North Herts and far beyond.

The Times agrees by placing David's Bookshop sixth best in the UK.

The newspaper wrote this week: "Started by the local Armitage family more than 60 years ago, this bookshop was named after their son, David.

"It has a large second-hand book section, and you can see people chatting and browsing the large selection on the pavement stands.

"David's is at the heart of Letchworth, true to the town's historic ethos of Ebenezer Howard, its founder."

The Poetry Pharmacy in Shropshire and Brighton's Kemptown Bookshop taking first and second spot.

David's Booskhop is open from 9am until 530pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10am until 5pm on Sundays.

David's say: "Our passion is to bring our customers the very best in new and second hand books, music, cards and games.

"We also host regular author events, weekly game nights, and book clubs.

"The bookshop has a large second-hand department on the upper floor and behind the music shop, quirky cards and gifts, an eclectic role playing games collection, new and classic board games, a varied 'bargains' area full of half price new books, as well as selling current new titles."
