Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation mourns Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth

Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation is in mourning following the announcement of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The renowned body which is such a force for good in our town has released the following statement

"Her indomitable leadership has been a beacon of hope and strength for us all for a lifetime. There are few words that can express the sadness that will be felt across the world. We offer our humble and sincere thanks to Her Majesty for her lifetime of service and reflect fondly on the times that Letchworth Garden City was honoured with her presence.

"In 1982, Her Majesty the Queen visited Letchworth to officially open the North Herts Leisure Centre where she was met by residents and children representing the schools and youth groups in the town.

"In 1993, Her Majesty visited Letchworth Garden City to open sheltered housing at Tabor Court and new houses around Beech Hill. She graciously met hundreds of gathered residents, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs before unveiling the plaque and officially opening the housing.

"Most recently, residents, groups and organisations around Letchworth Garden City came together to celebrate Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee, with events and activities taking place around the town. This was just the latest of countless examples of how she inspired and brought together communities.

"Rest in Peace, Your Majesty."

For those wishing to make a floral tribute to Her Majesty, an area has been designated at The Wynd Garden. Please feel free to leave flowers there in the coming days.
